Responsible engineering across product design, manufacture and use
SCI recognises that environmental simulation and ultra-low-temperature equipment can require significant materials, energy and refrigerant management across its lifecycle. We are committed to reducing avoidable environmental impacts while delivering the performance, safety and reliability our customers require.
Our environmental commitments
- Compliance: identify and meet applicable environmental laws, permits and contractual obligations in our operations and products.
- Energy-conscious design: improve refrigeration, heating, insulation, airflow and control strategies to reduce unnecessary energy consumption while maintaining agreed performance.
- Refrigerant stewardship: select, charge, recover, service and dispose of refrigerants responsibly, using qualified personnel and considering lower-impact alternatives where technically and legally appropriate.
- Efficient use of resources: reduce avoidable consumption of metals, insulation, packaging, water and other materials through design, planning, reuse and responsible sourcing.
- Waste prevention and control: separate and manage production waste, oils, electronic components, chemicals and other controlled materials through authorised channels where required.
- Pollution prevention: maintain appropriate controls for leaks, emissions, noise, wastewater and accidental releases at our facilities and during service activities.
- Lifecycle support: promote preventive maintenance, repairability, spare-parts support and responsible end-of-life handling to extend useful equipment life.
- Supplier engagement: consider environmental performance and legal compliance when evaluating critical suppliers and contractors.
- Awareness and improvement: develop employee awareness, review significant environmental aspects and use operational data and practical targets to improve performance over time.
Product use and customer cooperation
Actual environmental performance depends on chamber configuration, test profile, load, ambient conditions, maintenance and local electricity generation. SCI supports customers in selecting appropriate capacity, installing equipment correctly, maintaining heat-transfer and refrigeration systems, and avoiding unnecessary operation where testing requirements permit.
Credible communication
We aim to communicate environmental features accurately and avoid unsupported claims. Any product-specific energy, refrigerant or environmental statement should be verified against the applicable model, configuration, test conditions and technical documentation.
Governance
Management is responsible for providing appropriate resources and reviewing this policy. Employees and authorised partners are expected to follow relevant environmental procedures, report incidents and opportunities, and support continual improvement.
This policy is reviewed periodically as technologies, operational priorities and legal requirements evolve.
